10 Easy Ways to Simplify Our Lives

We’re always on the look-out for ways to simplify our busy DINK lives. Check out these tips for reducing life’s chores and freeing-up more play time.

10 Easy Ways to Simplify Our Lives

We may not be stuck driving the soccer carpool or in weekly PTA meetings, but our ambitious social calendars combined with late nights in the office keep us plenty busy. When we can find a way to eliminate fun-less “to-do's” and spend more time on kickball, dinner parties and weekend getaways, we’ll take it. Fortunately there are some great technology solutions and services out there to help simplify our lives, so we can have more time to work hard and play hard.

Check out our top ten tips and the tools that help:

1. Save time cab-chasing

After dinner and drinks, wasting time on a street corner waiting for an empty cab to pass is more like a page out of our single days than the ending of a DINK’s night out. Opt instead for a quicker, classier choice with Uber. It’s a private cab service that lets you instantly order a sleek town car, stocked with beverages and newspapers, from the handy convenience of an iPhone or Android app.

2. Hand-off the chores

Do you and your S.O. ever dream about hiring your own personal assistant? Check out the next best thing: Task Rabbit, a website that lets you outsource all the little things that can slowly chip away your one-on-one time. It’s the ultimate time-saver for errands of all kinds, from handymen to laundry to shopping, so you can focus more on each other.

3. Reduce your commute

Living spontaneously is certainly a perk of being a DINK, but it’s also one of the reasons why we’re often running a little late. Before traffic gets between you and another great time, check out Waze, a crowd-sourced GPS app that will instantly re-route you around congested areas so you and your S.O. can get to wherever you’re going quicker.

4. Skip the store

A trip to the grocery store on the weekends takes away from our primetime fun time. And after a long day in the office, who really wants to wait in a 10-person deep checkout line? You and your S.O. can save valuable time by using on-line grocery services such as Peapod, Schwan’s or Netgrocer and having them delivered straight to your door.

5. Automate your social networking

Are you and your S.O. spending so much time on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare that it’s cutting into your real life? Try uploading TweetDeck, an app that simplifies all the major social networking sites into one place, so you can spend less time checking all of your social networks and more time being social.
