I have had some friends who have used it with success, it is basically like insurance for people:) You can read this article to learn more on pet insurance, I found it helpful.
I think it is a rip off. Find out how much it costs to have it, then put that money in a savings account. If you need it, its there and if you don't need it, its STILL there.
I used to have pet insurance and it was OK. Honestly though, you are better off just making a savings account for your pet. Pet Insurance companies dont cover routine visits or pay for the actual office visit. Also, if your dog has a reoccuring issue or has a pre-existing condition, they dont cover. So if your dog breaks his leg at age 2, they cover. If he does it again at age 5, they dont.
I like it, my company would cover recurring injuries and there's no limit for treatments for things like cancer and whatnot. I just don't want to have to put a price tag on treatments for my animals. The costs can be absolutely obscene when you're dealing with long term illnesses and the security is a nice thing to have.
I know my brother really appreciated his when his dog needed weekly transfusions for several months. We are considering it for our dog...
Our cat has an ongoing heart problem that requires regular and expensive cardiograms. Insurance coverage has been pretty good, including check-ups. But we'll see how much the premium goes up next year.....
my other DINK friends are into their 3 year old lab for over 15 grand...thanks to the pet insurance, they have paid out less than 10 percent of that
The one we have is not a ripoff because it pays for all their routine vet visits, plus heartworm and flea medication. With the amount we pay in premiums, we pretty much break even, but it would also pay if something happened to one of them and they had to have surgery or something. A savings account really wouldn't cut it if anything major happened, especially if you are dipping into it all the time for minor expenses.
I love my pet insurance i have one that cover routine care too! It has paid off very well for me! Our great dane just had a 4500 surgery and they sent us like 3500 back!!
My husband and I just signed up for another year for both cats. We've found that it's good protection and good for our peace of mind.
Also, I called them in response to a direct mail about a new insurance product and the operator told me not to buy it because the insurance I already have is better. I was QUITE impressed with the company's honesty.
